Marriage Services

In Islam, marriage is considered both a social agreement and a legal contract. In modern times, the marriage contract is signed in the presence of an Islamic judge, or an Imam, who is familiar with Islamic law. The process of signing the contract is usually a private affair, involving only the immediate families of the bride and groom.  The contract itself is known as nikah.

Our Imam is available to help couples start their journey in life together in accordance with
Islamic requirements and laws of Alberta, and develop personalized Nikkah (marriage) contracts. It is important that both parties understand the process and be guided through relevant Islamic teachings. The ceremony includes a short reminder of each other’s role, commitment and responsibilities.

Islamic Counselling

When facing problems — either marital trouble, financial difficulties, mental health issues, or otherwise — many Muslims are reluctant to seek professional counselling. Some people
consider it degrading or inappropriate to speak of one’s troubles to others. Islam teaches us to give good advice to others and to offer guidance and support when needed. Friends, family, and Islamic leaders may be good listeners but are probably not trained to offer professional guidance and support.

Counselling services are available through the Imam or Sheikh of Baitul Aman Masjid. Our
Counselling is offered under basic Islamic principles and teachings. Complex issues or those requiring clinical counselling may be referred to outside agencies or professionals.

Areas of counselling include:

  • Religious Counseling
  • Classification: Protected A
  • Premarital Counseling
  • Marital Counseling
  • Parent/Child Counseling
  • Family Counseling
  • Grief Counseling
